What is an RSS
newsfeed?
An RSS newsfeed is a Web‑based technology that lets you receive alerts about new
information that is available on a particular topic.
How will an RSS newsfeed help me? RSS Newsfeeds help you control what information you receive by letting you subscribe to channels that focus on topics of interest to you. Our newsfeeds are frequently updated, often several times a day, with fresh news that affects our users.
How do I view an RSS newsfeed? To view an RSS newsfeed, you'll need an RSS reader on your local system. Then you'll need to "subscribe" to the newsfeed of your choice. With many readers, this is as simple as dragging the RSS icon from the Web page into the reader. If your reader doesn't support drag and drop, however, you can still add a new channel manually and supply the URL of the newsfeed.
Where do I get an
RSS reader?
You can find a variety of free and moderately priced readers on‑line. Just
search for "RSS readers", and you'll find a client you can download and install. We
have also provided some examples
of the types of readers that are available.
How do RSS newsfeeds work?
Once you've subscribed to a newsfeed, your reader will check it for new content at
regular intervals. When it finds new content, it will notify you.
Note: some browser-based readers don't have a notification feature.
Where can I get help with RSS? Our Service Center is available to help you configure your RSS Reader to receive our newsfeeds. If you need help, please call us at 1-800-500-4722 or msrchelp@erdc.hpc.mil.
