The ERDC DSRC is pleased to announce that the SGI Altix Ice (Diamond) has entered general production. Diamond has 1,920 compute nodes with two Intel quad-core Nehalem processors (2.8 GHz) for a total of 15,360 compute cores. The system login nodes are diamond01 - diamond08.erdc.hpc.mil, and the OS is SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 on both the login and compute nodes.
Users are welcome to log in and explore the system. The directory structure on Diamond is similar to that of the other HPC systems at the ERDC DSRC and all example codes, work directories, etc., can all be accessed the same way. PBS is also the batch processing system on Diamond, but a batch script that works on Sapphire or Jade will require modifications. The necessary changes and other tips and tricks for Diamond can be found in the online documentation or in the example codes. The examples codes directory can be accessed through the environment variable $SAMPLES_HOME.
